Custom Compounding · Custom Modified Applications

Specific gravity 2.0–2.6 g/cm³ customized to requirements, surface suitable for spray painting; already used in car speaker bases and has passed the customer's high/low temperature test.

Most engineering plastics have a density of only 0.9–1.4 g/cm³. Used as speaker mounting bases, such parts are light and limited in stiffness, so they are easily excited by the driver, causing resonance noise and a "plastic" feel. Through special custom modification, Xresin's high-density compound raises the specific gravity to 2.0–2.6 g/cm³, making the base heavier and more stable while keeping the advantages of one-shot injection molding with no secondary machining.

This material is one of our special custom compounding projects: the specific gravity can be customized within 2.0–2.6 to customer requirements, and the surface can be spray painted directly for decoration. It is currently used in car speaker bases and has passed the customer's high/low temperature test.

High Specific Gravity Compound (Car Speaker Base)

Material Features

  • Customizable specific gravity: 2.0–2.6 g/cm³, set according to the part's target weight and structure
  • Spray paintable: Surface can be spray painted for decoration to meet automotive interior appearance requirements
  • High/low temperature resistance: Has passed the customer's high/low temperature test for car speaker bases
  • Injection molding: Complex ribs, snap fits and screw bosses can be molded in one shot, reducing post-processing
  • Stable ballast weight: Greater mass means the base is less easily excited when the speaker is operating
  • Adjustable performance: Specific gravity, strength and toughness can be balanced to project requirements

Why use high specific gravity material for car speaker bases?

  • More mass, less excitation: For parts of the same structure, the greater the mass, the smaller the vibration amplitude under the same excitation force. Raising the specific gravity of the base material from about 1.0–1.4 to 2.0–2.6 increases part weight to about 1.5–2.5 times the original, so it is less likely to vibrate along with the speaker.
  • Steadier and quieter: A heavier base mounts more securely and reduces the humming resonance caused by the base vibrating with the speaker.
  • Weight feel close to aluminum alloy: A specific gravity of 2.6 is close to that of die-cast aluminum alloy (about 2.7 g/cm³), but the part can be injection molded in one shot, eliminating the deburring and machining steps required for die castings.
  • Decorative finish: The material can be spray painted, so the base can match the color and texture of interior trim parts.

FAQ

Why use high specific gravity material for car speaker bases?

The heavier the base, the less it is excited when the speaker is working. This reduces resonance noise and gives the base a steadier, more solid feel.

Can high specific gravity material be spray painted?

Yes. The material surface can be spray-painted; it is already used for car speaker bases, and we can support sample-part validation with the customer's paint system.

What tests has this material passed?

It has passed the customer's high/low temperature test for car speaker bases. High/low temperature test conditions vary by OEM and part; we can provide test specimens and sample parts to support verification to the customer's specifications.

What are the advantages over die-cast zinc alloy and aluminum alloy bases?

Die-cast zinc alloy has a density of about 6.6 g/cm³ and aluminum alloy about 2.7 g/cm³. Modified plastics with a specific gravity of 2.0–2.6 can be injection molded into complex structures in one shot, eliminating deburring and machining, and the surface can be spray painted directly.
