Flame-Retardant Masterbatch Series: Transparent FR Masterbatch for PC and PET

Home › Materials › Flame-Retardant Masterbatch Series: Transparent FR Masterbatch for PC and PET

Custom Compounding · Custom Modified Applications

Xresin flame-retardant masterbatch series: three FR masterbatches for PC (polycarbonate) plus one spinning-grade transparent FR masterbatch for PET. Simply add the masterbatch to general-purpose PC or PET at the recommended ratio to achieve flame retardancy, while maintaining transparency, a clean base color and consistent batch-to-batch quality.

Common challenges in flame-retardant modification: once flame retardants are added, parts turn yellow or gray, lose transparency and have an unclean base color that makes color matching difficult. Buying pre-compounded FR resin, on the other hand, is costly.

The Xresin flame-retardant masterbatch series is supplied in masterbatch form: customers simply add it to general-purpose PC or PET at the recommended ratio to produce flame-retardant parts. The two transparent PC FR masterbatches specifically address the base-color issues caused by FR masterbatches, delivering a clean base color and consistent batch performance. The natural-color grade can be colored directly, and the transparent PET FR masterbatch is suitable for sheet extrusion, injection molding and fiber spinning.

Flame-Retardant Masterbatch Series: Transparent FR Masterbatch for PC and PET

Material Features

  • Flame retardancy with transparency:Two transparent PC FR masterbatches that resolve the trade-off between flame retardancy and transparency
  • Clean base color:Reduces the yellow or gray base color caused by FR masterbatches
  • High consistency:Consistent flame-retardant performance and appearance from batch to batch
  • Low dosage:PC masterbatches reach the rated flame-retardant class at just 5–6 phr
  • No dripping:PC transparent FR masterbatches produce no dripping when burning
  • Ready to use:Mix with the base resin at the recommended ratio, then injection mold or extrude, with no change to your existing process
  • Lower cost:Produce flame-retardant parts in-house from general-purpose PC/PET plus masterbatch, significantly reducing material costs
  • Spinning-grade PET:The transparent PET FR masterbatch can be used for fiber spinning

Why Choose Xresin FR Masterbatch?

  • Solves base-color problems:Conventional FR masterbatches tend to make PC parts yellow, gray or hazy. Our transparent grades deliver a clean base color, so transparent parts are clearer and colored parts match more accurately.
  • Stable and reliable:Flame rating and appearance remain consistent from batch to batch, reducing production variation and rework.
  • Easy to use:Simply mix the masterbatch with the base resin at the recommended ratio; suitable for common processes such as injection molding, sheet extrusion and fiber spinning.
  • Lower cost:Compared with buying pre-compounded FR resin, producing in-house with general-purpose PC/PET plus masterbatch helps customers cut costs significantly.
  • Choose what you need:From 0.8 mm thin walls to 2.5 mm, transparent to colorable, PC to PET, the series covers a wide range of product needs and can be customized to customer requirements.

Main Applications

  • LED lamp covers, transparent lighting components, light diffusers
  • Transparent housings, windows and indicator covers for electronics and appliances
  • Electrical housings for chargers, sockets, switch panels and more
  • Transparent FR PET sheet:Electrical insulation sheets, appliance liners, display and packaging
  • Flame-retardant polyester fiber:Fibers for home textiles, curtains, and automotive and transportation interiors (finished products must be tested to the applicable textile flame-retardancy standards)

FAQ

What is a flame-retardant masterbatch?

A flame-retardant masterbatch is a concentrated pellet containing the flame-retardant function. It is added at a set ratio to general-purpose base resins such as PC and PET, and the blend is then directly injection molded, extruded or spun to give the finished product flame-retardant properties.

Can transparent PC parts achieve V0 flame retardancy?

Yes. Xresin offers two PC transparent FR masterbatches, 2.5 mm V0 and 0.8 mm V0, which achieve UL 94 V0 while maintaining transparency (actual results depend on the test standard and part conditions).

How much PC FR masterbatch should be added?

The 2.5 mm transparent PC grade is added at approx. 5%; the 0.8 mm transparent grade and the natural colorable grade are added at 5–6 phr to achieve V0 at the corresponding thickness.

Will FR masterbatch make PC yellow or degrade its base color?

Conventional FR masterbatches often cause base-color problems. Xresin's two transparent FR masterbatches were developed specifically to address this, delivering a clean base color and consistent quality.

Can the FR PET masterbatch be used for spinning?

Yes. For spinning, the PET transparent FR masterbatch achieves V2 at 18–20 phr; for sheet extrusion and injection molding, 5–6 phr achieves V2–V0 at 1.6 mm (depending on test standard).

Do the FR masterbatches contain halogens?

The 2.5 mm transparent grade is halogen-free; the 0.8 mm transparent grade is bromine- and chlorine-free with a small amount of fluorine; the natural colorable grade is bromine- and chlorine-free with a relatively high fluorine content. For products with restrictions on fluorine or PFAS, please consult us before selecting a grade.
